5250-Style
and 3270-Style Keyboards for PCs,
Thin Client Terminals, and "Dumb" Terminals Overview
Affirmative
Technology Group provides a full line of 5250-style and
3270-style keyboards for PCs, Thin Client Terminals and "Dumb"
Twinax and Ethernet Terminals.
Note
your typical low grade PC-type keyboards, but heavy duty commercial
grade keyboards with molded in keyboard legends and IBM
terminal-type tactile "clicky" feedback keys on most models.
There
are different models for almost any PC/terminal/Thin Client application.
Click here for a list and description of all
available models.
When moving from the 122-key layout to a standard PC
keyboard, there are up to 36 new key combinations to be learned to perform
the same tasks performed with a single keystroke on the Twinax or Coax terminal
currently being used.
This lack of familiarity can produce a big loss in production and excess
errors that would not be occurring if the user had their old, familiar
keyboard.
Click
here or on the image at right for a larger image of the 122-key keyboard
layout. With the Affirmative
family of 122-key keyboard, there is virtually no retraining when moving users from
the old "dumb" terminals to new connected device, whether it be
a PC or Thin Client Terminal. The user will have the same layout and
heavy duty keystroke feel as on the terminals being replaced. No need
to learn the new key combinations a standard PC keyboard would require.

Advantages
Keyboards
that work perfectly in both the PC and Thin Client environments.
Any keys that have different functions are labeled
with both functions, Terminal and PC. The keys that are common to both
PC and 5250/3270 keys are labeled in black. Any PC functions are labeled in blue.
The image at left shows this clearly as well as a number
of the 5250 keys only the 122-key keyboards have such as New Line, Field
Exit, Jump, Dup, Roll Up, Roll Down, etc.

NOTE: Most 122-key keyboards
(unless described as driverless) require device driver software to run with
all emulation products except BOSaNOVA (Plus, Desktop,
Client, TCP/IP) and IBM Personal Communications (P-COMM). These drivers need to be
installed in your Windows operating system to intercept the custom keyboard scan codes
to correctly pass them to your IBM host computer (AS/400 or Mainframe) or to automatically modify the keyboard profile to conform to the 5250/3270
standard.
Affirmative 1225T and 1229T Keyboards work without
drivers on Affirmative Thin Client Terminals with PowerTerm Terminal
Emulation and Computer Lab International (CLI) Thin Client Terminals
with TermPro Terminal Emulation. |
