The model 4015 is the ideal communications controller providing connection of Ethernet or
Token Ring LAN topologies to an IBM mainframe host across leased or switched telephone
lines. In addition to it's gateway capabilities, the 4015 simultaneously supports up to
thirty two, 3270 coax devices via IBM 3299 multiplexers.
Improves protocol conversion
The 4015 performs efficient LAN to WAN protocol conversion by off-loading responsibility
from the LAN to the controller hardware, making it a better choice than software-based
communication servers. This advanced hardware level processing also provides more
effective service diagnosis and repair. Investment protection is guaranteed for those
remote sites planning to add or integrate Local Area Networks as illustrated by the
following configurations. LAN workstations with 3270 emulators (such as TN 3270) can
function as terminals and gain access to host-based applications and databases using the
4015 as communications facilitator.
